Welcome to the Science department
At St Augustine’s, Science is more than just a subject — it’s a journey of discovery, curiosity, and real-world exploration. Our aim is to help every student develop the scientific understanding, confidence, and practical skills they need for success in education and beyond.
We offer a full Science programme from Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 5, ensuring that students build strong foundations and develop the skills they need to succeed. At KS3, students explore key concepts in Biology, Chemistry and Physics through engaging and practical learning. At KS4, students follow either the Combined Science course (equivalent to two GCSEs) or the Separate Sciences route (individual GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics), based on their aptitude and future goals. At KS5, we offer a full A-Level programme in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, carefully designed to support progression to university and careers in healthcare, engineering, environmental science, and other STEM fields.
Real-World Science in Action
We’re proud to provide a wide range of enrichment activities that allow students to take their learning beyond the classroom and into the world of applied science:
- Our Girls-Only Robotics Club made history last year by winning a national challenge — a first-of-its-kind achievement in the UK, and possibly globally. This club empowers young women to lead in science, technology, and engineering.
- Our partnership with ZSL London Zoo gives Year 12 A-Level Biology students the chance to work alongside professional scientists, gaining first-hand experience in conservation, ecology, and animal behaviour. These projects deepen understanding and bring science to life in powerful, memorable ways.
- Students also take part in experiences with Zoo Lab, where they interact with a range of unique animals while learning about biological adaptations, ecosystems, and ethical science.
- We collaborate with the Wren Group, offering workshops focused on innovation in engineering, giving students a taste of cutting-edge developments in the scientific world.
