Medical Support in School

Our school is an inclusive community that supports and welcomes pupils with medical conditions.

It provides children with medical conditions with the same opportunities and access to activities (both school based and out-of-school) as other pupils. We work in partnership with the school community, healthcare professionals, Bi-borough services, and outside agencies to ensure that students will be effectively supported to enable them to participate in all aspects of school life, remain healthy and safe, and achieve their academic potential.

Section 100 of the Children & Families Act 2014, and the Equality Act 2010 places a duty on the school governors to make arrangements to support students with medical conditions and disabilities.

We understand the emotional and social challenges students with medical conditions face in terms of both physical, and mental health, and ensure a whole-school approach is taken so that those needs are made known to all who teach and work with our students. We ensure that the necessary provision is made for students, so that they and their families are properly supported.

We listen to the views of pupils and parents/carers. Pupils and parents/carers feel confident in the care they receive from us and the level of that care meets their needs. We understand that not all children with the same medical condition will have the same needs, and therefore focus on the needs of each individual child.

Key staff such as our Medical Officer, Assistant Medical Officer and First Aiders receive specific training and the whole school & local health community understand and support the medical conditions policy.
