Our Advocacy

‘Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.’ - Proverbs 31:8-9

The Christian Gospel teaches that we all have an important task to do, with God, and for God, whether we know it or not. We hold the conviction that there is something courageous, and potentially wonderful, within all our staff and students.

How does St. Augustine’s Christian vision support the character and moral development of all students, giving them aspiration for themselves, their loved ones, their peers and those in wider society. How do we encourage and support them to engage in social action and to be courageous advocates for change in their local, national and global communities?

Within the local community our school is a champion of inclusion, diversity and equality. Our Christian Virtues (Faith, Hope and Love) underpinned by our Saints and British Values (Rule of Law, Tolerance, Democracy, Mutual Respect and Individual Liberty) ensure that all members of our school community have opportunities to discuss current world issues, to challenge injustice and to engage in activities that can bring about change are always present. The curriculum is designed to be broad and balanced. Each subject area teaches a curriculum that allows students to reflect spiritually, and gives them the chance to reflect on ‘big questions’. These prompt and empower our young people to seek to make their world a better place not just for themselves but for everyone.

Most importantly we inspire our students to have the confidence and courage to be leaders for challenge and change. Students take a leading role in organising charitable activities, through our Charity Committee.
