‘Reach’ is our term for students who are considered ‘More Able’ or ‘Gifted and Talented’.
Vision: We create a culture where all students are challenged in lessons and through a rich extra-curricular programme to be the very best they can be.
At St Augustine’s we firmly believe that all our students should be challenged and seek to embed this within teaching and learning in all lessons. We focus on three challenge principles to ensure not just our Reach (MA G&T) students are stretched but that all students are offered work that is meaningful, engaging and gives them the opportunity to reach or exceed their targets.
Three key principles:
|Effective Learning happens in the ‘struggle zone’.||Challenge Everyone||Crafting high quality work|
|‘It is good for students to struggle just outside of their comfort zone, as this is where they are likely to learn most’ building a culture where they embrace this struggle is part of the challenge for us!||Challenge is not just about the most able – it is about everyone. Lessons that are consistently pitched to push all students as far as possible will ensure high levels of progress for all.||It is important that students are encouraged to re-draft and re-write to ensure they produce their very best work as often as possible.|
Reach students are defined as those whose attainment who according to data are capable of achieving within the top 10% of their cohort.
All teachers are aware of these students and work towards consistently challenging them in lessons and providing extra-curricular opportunities to enrich and extend.
