Sign Language week is celebrated each year to coincide with the anniversary of the recognition of British sign Language (BSL) by the UK Government in 2003. Sign language week is an initiative of the British Deaf Association (BDA) and the theme this year was “BSL Brings us Together.” We had a special guest Mr David Buxton, Chair of the British Deaf Association and Chief Executive of Action on Disability, delivering a presentation to our year 7,8 and 9 on current topics regarding BSL and its recognition. Our students showed enthusiasm and willingly participated in signing and responding to questions from Mr Buxton. Furthermore, The BSL Bill has passed its third reading in the House of Commons unopposed. This was a historical moment for Deaf community in terms of recognition and wider public awareness of their language.
