Year 6 to Year 7 Application Process

All Year 6 students and their parents will be advised about the transition from primary to secondary process by their primary schools. During September and October Year 6 parents are advised to attend as many secondary schools’ Open Days or Transition events as possible and research school websites, read school prospectuses, etc . All applicants have to complete a Common Application Form provided by their home borough (local authority) and submit this before the published Closing Date.

Before the published closing date applicants for Year 7 at St Augustine’s must do the following:

1. Complete and submit a school application form direct to St Augustine’s CE High School.
2. Name St Augustine’s as one of your preferences on your home Borough’s Common Application Form and return this to your home borough’s School Admissions Team.
3. Make a note of the Banding Test Day: (Saturday 26th November at 9.00am). It is essential that your child attends this test. We are required to prove that we have a fully comprehensive intake, i.e. equal number of children from all (4) ability bands. If we do not have a result we will not be able to place your child in an ability band which could affect their application.

Banding Test: Important Information for Year 7 Entry (September 2023)

Thank you for applying to St Augustine’s CE High School for your child. In addition to your Supplementary Information Form and Clergy Form (submitted directly to St Augustine’s CE High School and naming St Augustine’s as one of your preferences on your Local Authority’s eAdmissions application), another vital part of the application process is for your child/ren to sit a Banding Test on Saturday 26th November at 09.00am. This is a Non-Verbal Reasoning Test and is not a pass or fail test – it is used for administration purposes to ensure we take an equal number of children from all levels of ability.

**Applicants will also complete a 20 minute writing task. Being offered a place at St Augustine’s does not depend on your child ‘passing’ the test.

You do not need to register in advance. Please bring your child to the Main School Gate for 08.50. The testing lasts approximately one and a half hours. Please be on time to collect your child one and a half hours after you have dropped them off for the Band Test.
